abstract A method and apparatus for producing bulk refined silicon from a metallurgical grade silicon raw material having a high impurity concentration at atmospheric pressure. (1) reacting iodine and metallurgy grade silicon to produce silicon tetraiodide and by-product impurity iodide in a cold-wall reactor chamber; (2) ) Isolating and purifying silicon tetraiodide from impurity iodide by-products by distillation in a distillation chamber; and (3) returning the purified silicon tetraiodide back to the cooling furnace chamber for additional iodine and treatment. Reacting with gold grade silicon to produce silicon diiodide and depositing silicon diiodide on a substrate inside a cold-wall reactor chamber. The two chambers are at atmospheric pressure, the apparatus is open, and additional raw materials can be introduced and spent substrates can be removed and replaced. [Selection] Figure 1
