abstract A water-based rust preventive which is applied on steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, and aluminum alloy to form a film having excellent rust prevention properties is provided. SOLUTION: (1) oxidized α-olefin, (2) oxidized wax, (3) wax other than oxidized wax (hereinafter simply referred to as “wax”), (4) sodium salt of organic sulfonic acid having a molecular weight of 470 or more , (5) amine, (6) glycol ether, in the aqueous rust inhibitor composition containing each component, based on the weight of each component, (1) (1) + (2) = 100 When (1) is in the range of 10 to 100, (2) (1) + (2) + (3) = 100 When (3) is in the range of 50 to 85, (4) is in the range of 2 to 15, (3) (1) + (2) + (3) + (4) = 100 (6) is 10 or more, and (4) contains (5) equivalent to an amine value of 1 to 5 equivalents to the acid value of (1) + (2).
