abstract | 【Task】 The present invention provides 3,4-dihydro (2H) -1,5-benzodioxepin-3-ones, which are useful as fragrance components of marine notes, under good reaction conditions under good reaction conditions, and is industrially inexpensive. [Solution] The present invention produces a 1,4-benzodioxane derivative by subjecting catechols and 1,3-dihaloacetone to a dehydrohalogenation reaction in the presence of sodium carbonate, and further reacting the derivative in the presence of sodium carbonate. To produce 3,4-dihydro (2H) -1,5-benzodioxepin-3-ones. The process of the present invention can also be performed in one step without isolating the intermediate 1,4-benzodioxane derivative.
