abstract | [Problem] To provide a novel gene involved in acetic acid resistance of acetic acid bacteria, and a method for improving acetic acid resistance of microorganisms containing the gene, particularly acetic acid bacteria, and further using acetic acid bacteria having improved acetic acid resistance. Provided is a method for efficiently producing vinegar having a high acetic acid concentration. A method for obtaining a gene capable of growing even in a medium having an acetic acid concentration that cannot normally grow from a chromosomal DNA library of acetic acid bacteria, thereby obtaining acetic acid resistance from a practical acetic acid bacterium belonging to the genus Gluconacetobacter at a practical level. A new gene with improved function was cloned. Further, in a transformant in which the gene was introduced into acetic acid bacteria, acetic acid resistance was remarkably improved, and when the transformant was cultured in the presence of ethanol, it was possible to remarkably improve the finally reached acetic acid concentration. .
