abstract |
Disclosed are a titanium dioxide fine particle having excellent transparency and UVB shielding ability, and a method for producing the same. The titanium dioxide fine particles of the present invention have a needle-like shape and a fine crystallite constituting the titanium dioxide. The average value of the major axis diameter of the needle-like shape is 0.01 to 0. The average value of the crystallites is in the range of 40 to 175 mm. The titanium dioxide fine particles of the present invention are obtained by reacting a reaction product of hydrous titanium oxide and a basic sodium compound with hydrochloric acid in the presence of titanium trichloride. The amount of titanium trichloride is preferably in the range of 0.1 to 50% by weight of titanium trichloride in terms of TiO 2 with respect to the amount of TiO 2 in terms of titanium contained in the reaction product.
