abstract | An image forming method capable of high-speed exposure and excellent in image forming ability, particularly an image forming method useful for plate making of a lithographic printing plate precursor excellent in productivity and printing durability. An image forming method comprising at least a step of imagewise exposure by overlapping an infrared light beam on an image forming medium and a step of developing the image forming medium to form an image. Under the condition that the overlap coefficient, which is the ratio between the half-value width (FWHM) of the beam intensity of the external light beam diameter and the beam center distance on the sub-scanning side, is 0.25 to 0.75 and the exposure resolution is 1300 dpi or less.
