abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a highly active exhaust gas purifying catalyst in which a catalyst component is uniformly supported on a porous carrier. In a method for producing an exhaust gas purifying catalyst in which a catalyst component is supported on a substrate, and then dried and calcined, an acidic sol containing the catalyst component is added to a pH adjuster so that the sol becomes unstable. After adjusting to the region, or impregnating the porous carrier with urea or a urea derivative coexisting, heating with restricted drying, gelling the impregnated catalyst component-containing sol, then drying and firing thing.
