abstract A fixing device capable of reducing heat loss due to heat radiation to save energy, further shortening the time required for heating a fixing member, realizing quick start fixing, and obtaining a stable fixed image, and a fixing device capable of obtaining a stable fixed image. The present invention provides an image forming apparatus equipped with: A fixing device for fixing a toner image by passing a transfer material carrying a toner image through a fixing nip formed by a heat fixing member and an adiabatic pressing member. The fixing member 11 includes a heat ray irradiating unit 12a that emits heat rays therein, and a heat ray absorbing layer 11c that absorbs at least about 100% of the heat rays and a flexible heat transfer layer are provided on the translucent substrate 11a. In this case, the surface temperature of the heat fixing member 11 at the outlet of the fixing nip is lower than the maximum temperature of the surface of the fixing member 11 in the fixing nip.
