Electrolyte having excellent charge / discharge performance by using a novel electrolyte solvent having a stable, appropriate boiling point and a low viscosity as an electrode material so that the battery is unlikely to swell due to decomposition gas of the electrolyte. Provide liquid. In addition, the present invention provides a secondary battery containing the non-aqueous electrolyte, hardly causing swelling, and having excellent charge / discharge characteristics. A non-aqueous electrolyte comprises a non-aqueous solvent and a lithium salt, wherein the non-aqueous solvent contains a halogenated alkyloxybenzene compound having a specific structure. The halogenated alkyloxybenzene compound is preferably a halogenated methoxybenzene.
