abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal aligning agent used for forming a liquid crystal alignment film capable of imparting liquid crystal alignment ability by irradiating linearly or partially polarized radiation without performing a rubbing treatment. A liquid crystal aligning agent containing a polymer having an alicyclic or saturated heterocyclic organic group having high rigidity and not exerting a strong intermolecular force on liquid crystal molecules in a main chain. This is irradiated with radiation from a predetermined direction to form a liquid crystal alignment film. A liquid crystal display element having high display stability and high thermal stability of liquid crystal alignment and hardly causing liquid crystal alignment defects can be produced.
