abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide a production method capable of obtaining an oxide having high catalytic performance by a simple process, and a method for polymerizing a cyclic ether using the obtained oxide as a catalyst. An oxide is produced by supporting a specific compound containing a metal element belonging to Group 4 of a long-period periodic table on a support and then firing the compound. Further, the cyclic ether is subjected to ring-opening polymerization using the oxide obtained by the above method as a catalyst to produce a corresponding cyclic ether polymer.
