abstract The present invention provides an exhaust gas purifying catalyst having excellent ability to combust and remove hydrocarbon compounds contained in exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine such as an automobile engine. A composite metal colloid having a central part made of a noble metal and a surface part made of a transition metal other than a noble metal is supported on a porous metal oxide carrier to constitute an exhaust gas purifying catalyst. Further, it is particularly preferable that the noble metal is at least one selected from Pt, Pd, and Rh, and the transition metal is at least one selected from Fe, Mn, and Ce.
