abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a light quantity setting for reproducing a color tone of a printed matter when two or more colors are overlapped based on a specific relationship, so that a multicolor printed matter can be easily and highly accurately printed. It is an object of the present invention to provide a method of forming a gradation image which can cope with the above. In a method for forming a gradation image using an image forming material capable of expressing n different colors, a single color density of a lower color tone U is determined in a portion where a color tone O and a color tone U are vertically overlapped.
