abstract | To provide a polymer for producing an AXS resin capable of controlling the molecular weight of the AXS resin with high accuracy in the production of an AXS resin, a method for producing the same, and a method for producing an AXS resin using the same. An AXS-based compound wherein the consumption of the thiol compound when reacting the thiol compound with the α, β-ethylenically unsaturated nitrile compound in the presence thereof is 2.7 × 10 -2 mmol or less per gram of the polymer; Polymer for resin production. A method for producing a polymer for producing an AXS-based resin, wherein a polymer obtained by polymerization using a metal of Group 1 or 2 of the periodic table or a compound containing these metals is treated with an acidic compound. An AXS-based resin which polymerizes an aromatic vinyl monomer, an α, β-ethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer, and a monomer copolymerizable therewith, if necessary, in the presence of a polymer for producing AXS.
