A porous metal oxide flake which can exhibit various functions derived from a porous material, does not cause problems such as deterioration in handleability due to agglomeration, has a large mechanical strength, and has a large ability to hold a carrier. A method for producing a porous metal oxide flake inexpensively and easily is provided. Further, the present invention provides a cosmetic, a paint composition, a resin composition, an ink, and a paper that effectively utilize various functions of the porous metal oxide flake. A porous metal oxide flake having a specific surface area of 110 to 3,000 m 2 / g, an average particle size of 5 to 500 μm, an average thickness of 0.10 to 5 μm, and an average aspect ratio of 5 to 300. A method for producing a porous metal oxide flake in which a colloid solution containing metal oxide colloid particles is applied to a substrate, dried and solidified, and then separated from the substrate and heat-treated.
