titleOfInvention Distributed feedback semiconductor laser and method of manufacturing the same
abstract An object of the present invention is to secure a high yield and a high light output. The first and second diffraction gratings are arranged apart from each other across a flat coupling layer in the light emission direction so as to form a part of a diffraction grating having a continuous phase at virtually the same grating interval. In the distributed feedback semiconductor laser having the second diffraction grating layers 12a and 12b, a region above the first and second diffraction grating layers and the coupling layer and below the active layer and the coupling layer are formed on a semiconductor substrate. The coupling coefficients κ 1 and κ 2 in the diffraction gratings of the first and second diffraction grating layers are set to different values from each other, and further, of the first and second diffraction grating layers. An anti-reflection film 22 is formed on the light emitting end face on the side of the diffraction grating layer where the coupling coefficient of the diffraction grating is small.
