An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a dioxolane compound having high purity and high yield and low skin irritation, and an ultraviolet curable composition. The formula (I): Embedded image (R 1 and R 2 are hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms or a phenyl group) and glycerin are dehydrated in the presence of an esterification catalyst while the conversion of glycerin is 20 to 95%. After the reaction is completed, the glycerin layer is removed from the reaction solution.
