abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which is dry, has high response performance, has a simple structure, is inexpensive, has excellent stability, and has an improved contrast ratio. SOLUTION: An aerosol in which two kinds of particles 5 and 6 having different colors and charging characteristics are sealed between a transparent substrate 1 and a counter substrate 2 facing each other, or a solid substance is stably suspended as a dispersoid in a gas. Powdered fluids 5 and 6 having different colors, which exhibit high fluidity in a state, are sealed, and particles or powdered fluids 5 are formed from an electrode pair including a display electrode 3 provided on a transparent substrate 1 and a counter electrode 4 provided on a counter substrate 2. In an image display apparatus provided with an image display panel 11 for displaying an image by applying an electric field to 6 and moving particles or powder fluids 5 and 6 by Coulomb force, a transparent substrate positioned on the display surface side of the image display panel 11 is provided. A grid-shaped colored pattern 13 having an OD value of 2 or more is provided on the inner peripheral surface of the pixel 1 so as to cover the boundary between the pixels 12.
