Kind Code: A1 Abstract: A method for forming an overcoat layer of a photographic element, comprising a fluorinated surfactant which can control the generation of static charge, does not adversely affect the photographic performance of the image forming layer, and has a low risk of bioaccumulation. Is to provide a coating composition. An aqueous solution of two or more surfactants; a hydrophilic binder; and mat particles is contained; one of the surfactants has the following formula (I): R f -CH 2 CH 2 - ( B) y -A (I) Wherein R f is F (CF 2 CF 2 ) n −, n is 3 and 4 or 3, 4 and 5, and the proportion of all R f where n = 3 is at least 40% B is a divalent linking group; y is 0 or 1; and A is an anionic or amphoteric group having a counterion) for use in forming a photographic element overcoat layer.
