An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a galvanized steel sheet having excellent white rust resistance. A zinc-based plated steel sheet is prepared by mixing one or more kinds selected from Mg sulfate, halide, carboxylate, perchlorate and carbonate in total of 0.01 to 0.01 in terms of Mg. An electrolytic treatment at a current density of 1.0 to 20 A / dm 2 or less in an aqueous solution containing 3 mol / L produces an oxide of Mg of 5 to 3000 mg / m 2 in terms of Mg on the surface of the zinc-based plated steel sheet.
