A liquid crystal cell is optically compensated using an optical compensation sheet having excellent durability. An ultraviolet absorption spectrum of a solution includes a rod-like compound having a maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) shorter than 250 nm, an Rth retardation value (Rth450) measured at a wavelength of 450 nm is 30 to 160 nm, and a wavelength of 590 nm. A polymer film having a measured Rth retardation value (Rth590) of 50 to 200 nm and satisfying a relationship of Rth590−Rth450 ≧ 2 nm is used as an optical compensation sheet or a support thereof.
