titleOfInvention Method for producing metallocene isotactic polypropylene fiber
abstract The production of polypropylene fibers having high productivity and improved shrinkage properties. A method for producing polypropylene fibers from propylene polymers, including isotactic polypropylene produced by polymerization of propylene in the presence of an isoselective metallocene catalyst. The polymer is heated to the molten state and extruded at a temperature in the range of about 170C to 210C to produce a fiber preform. The fiber preform is spun at a spinning speed of at least 200 meters per minute and quenched at a heat exchange rate of no more than 12 joules per second per fiber. The spun fibers are then subjected to a winding operation. The fibers can be drawn following the quenching step and prior to the winding step. The cooled fiber preform is stretched at a draw ratio in the range of about 1.5-4.0, with a shrinkage of ± 25% of the median shrinkage coefficient over the draw ratio range and the draw ratio range. Fibers exhibiting dispersion can be produced. [Selection diagram] None
