abstract |
A method for hydrogenating prochiral ketones to (S) -alcohols with high enantioselectivity is provided. A method for enantioselectively hydrogenating a prochiral ketone to an (S) -alcohol using a platinum catalyst in the presence of hydrogen and cinchonine or quinidine as a modifier is used. Wherein the denaturing agent is unsubstituted cinchonine, 3-ethylidenyl- or 9-methoxycinchonine or a derivative thereof in which the quinoline ring is replaced by another ring.
