titleOfInvention Microwave device based on chemically induced dynamic electron spin polarization
abstract (57) [Summary]nAn optical pump maser is described. The device is useful for microwave amplification, microwave phase shifting and microwave limiting. The device is based on the electron spin polarization of stable radical species, triggered by an intermolecular energy transfer process that works via photons that trigger a radical triplet pair mechanism. With the concomitant increase in magnetic susceptibility in the matrix, the radical triplet precursor chromophore in the matrix containing stable free radicals is irradiated with light, preferably using a pulsed laser, to initiate the process. Microwave radiation is incident on the photoactivated matrix and is amplified, phase shifted or reflected as a limited microwave field, depending on the associated device parameters and the power of the incident microwave radiation.
