titleOfInvention Metallocenes as signal transducers for detecting chemical or biological events
abstract (57) SUMMARY The present invention provides compositions, kits, methods, and species that include electroactive agents that can act as signaling agents in chemical and / or bioassays. The electroactive species can be a metallocene containing a substituent that affects the oxidation / reduction potential (redox potential) of the species, such as ferrocene. By controlling the redox potentials of the species, multiple species, each with a different redox potential, can be used in a single assay, so that signaling from different binding events can be obtained simultaneously. In addition, species having a redox potential of less than 490 mV can be provided, allowing signaling within a potential range that is easily detectable in the presence of biological fluids.
