titleOfInvention | Papermaking process |
abstract | (57) [Summary] A method for producing paper or paperboard. According to one method, fine particles of fiburous cationic colloidal alumina and certain polymers are introduced into paper pulp to make a processed pulp with improved retention. The microparticles of colloidal fiber alumina are preferably fiber cations of boehmite alumina having a zeta potential of about 25 or greater and a weight ratio of alumina to acetate of about 4 or less. The polymer may be a chaotic polymer, a nonionic polymer, a cationic amphoteric polymer, or a mixture thereof. The pulp is also treated with at least one coagulant, at least one flocculant, at least one cationic starch, at least one cellulic enzyme, and / or other conventional papermaking pulp additives. The resulting pulp is formed into sheet pulp and drained to make paper or paperboard. Other papermaking processes have also been described as papermaking equipment for performing the method. Paper and paperboard are also described, comprising fine particles of fiber cationic colloidal alumina and dried pulp treated with a polymer. |
