abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for laser cutting a microscope sample such that a certain cutting quality is guaranteed for a wide sample spectrum. The apparatus has a microscope (1) with at least one objective lens (6) for observing a sample (12) to be cut. The objective lens (6) defines an optical axis and an objective lens aperture (34). Further, a laser (4) is connected to the microscope (1). The laser (4) forms a laser beam (4a), which is coupled into the objective lens (6) via at least one optical system (16). A laser beam (4b) whose diameter is reduced by the stop (18) is formed. Here, the laser aperture (36) formed by the objective lens (6) is smaller than the objective lens aperture of the objective lens (6) itself.
