(57) Abstract The present invention provides a masking system for selectively applying cells to predetermined areas of a surface. The mask is positioned adjacent to the surface and covers some portions of the surface, while allowing other portions of the surface to remain uncovered. The cells are then applied to the uncovered areas of the surface and the mask is removed. Alternatively, a cell adhesion promoter is applied to the uncovered portions of the surface, and then the cells are applied to the surface before or after removal of the mask from the surface. The masking system is pre-coated with a cell adhesion inhibitor, at least on the surface that will come into contact with the cells, disrupts cell adsorption and thereby removes the mask (if the cells adhere before removing the mask) It is possible to avoid cell damage at the time. A polymeric elastomer mask that is in cohesive contact with the surface to be patterned can be used. |
