(57) [Summary]nThe STAT protein, a signal transducer and transcriptional activator, has a fundamental role in cellular signaling and is activated by a number of cytokines and growth factors. STAT3, a member of the STAT family, has a useful role in canceration. The present invention generally relates to disrupting the STAT3 signaling pathway in the treatment of human cancer. STAT3 activation has been shown to be present in a variety of tumor cell lines, promote carcinogenesis, suppress apoptosis, and reduce sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents. More specifically, the present invention relates to methods, compounds, means for administering such compounds, and means for identifying such compounds, for inhibiting STAT3 intracellular signaling in the treatment of human cancer. |
