titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for evaluating myoelectric signals and identifying artifacts
abstract (57) Summary An apparatus and method for identifying artifacts in a signal indicative of detected myoelectric activity is provided. The method includes providing an electrode (12) for acquiring a first signal (15) over a period of time. The first signal is generated from an internal organ in the abdominal cavity of the living body. The first signal includes a spurious signal due to an artifact. The sensor (22) acquires the second signal (26) at the same time as the first signal is acquired. The second signal is indicative of the respiratory function of the living body and includes a spurious signal indicative of an artifact. The first and second signals are recorded simultaneously. The occurrence of artifacts is identified by knowing the irregularities in both the first and second signals recorded during a particular time frame.
