Medical devices to prevent restenosis |
abstract |
(57) Abstract: A medical device comprising a biocompatible material (102) and a plurality of extrinsic storage structures (100). The extrinsic storage structure (100) stores a therapeutic agent (104) that acts to suppress restenosis. In some embodiments, the therapeutic agent stores a radioactive metal ion. In another embodiment, the medical device has an expandable structure and has particles of the therapeutic agent (104) on a surface thereof. The particles of the therapeutic agent (104) are delivered to the prone to restenosis by direct application of the medical device to the adjacent wall. |
