C1 inhibitors produced in milk of transgenic mammals |
abstract |
(57) Abstract The present invention provides a transgenic non-human mammal that expresses a C1 inhibitor in its milk. C1 inhibitors are useful for treating patients with hereditary angioedema or in need of immunosuppression. In one aspect of the present study, the non-human mammal is a DNA segment that encodes a C1 inhibitor that is heterologous to the mammal and that promotes expression of the DNA segment in mammary cells of the mammal. A DNA segment operably linked to at least one effective regulatory sequence, and a segment encoding a signal peptide functional in breast cells of the mammal; wherein the C1 inhibitor encodes A DNA segment is provided in a mammary gland of an adult form of the mammal or a female progeny thereof to provide a non-human mammal capable of producing a C1 inhibitor in the milk of the non-human mammal. |
