titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for aligning and comparing face and body images from different imagers
abstract (57) [Summary] To compare the infrared image (12) of a person with the visible image database (6) of a person (26) and calculate the possibility that each of them is a matching partner of the infrared image (42) The method and the apparatus of (1) are characterized in that detailed items are extracted from an infrared image and visible details are extracted from a visible image. Infrared and visible images can be compared and registered using the matching details that appear in both spectra. Other details depend on the spectrum (8), but obey the rules for the other spectral details due to the anatomy of the human face and body (34). The first application is for confirmation of a person appearing in an infrared surveillance image, and uses a reference database of visible images. Other applications include compression of talking head video and synthetic facial animation. The method and apparatus can be applied to body parts other than the face to compare images from images containing different spectra from medical sensors.
