abstract | (57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides the following steps: (a) a step of covalently bonding a compound containing an ethylenically unsaturated double bond to the surface of a material; and (b) polymerizing a monomer containing a reactive or crosslinkable group on the surface. Thereby obtaining a primary polymer coating comprising reactive or crosslinkable groups; (c) in step (b), if the monomers comprise reactive groups, the reactive groups of the primary coating are converted to ethylenic groups Reacting with a further compound containing an unsaturated double bond to graft polymerize the hydrophilic monomer and optionally a comonomer having a crosslinkable group onto the primary coating obtained in step (b); and (d) In the step (b) or (c), when a crosslinkable group is present, the present invention relates to a method for coating the surface of a material, which comprises a step of initiating crosslinking of the group. The coated articles obtained by the method of the present invention have the desired properties with respect to adhesion to substrates, durability, hydrophilicity, wettability, biocompatibility and permeability and are therefore biomedical articles, such as e.g. Useful for manufacturing ophthalmic devices. |
