titleOfInvention | Apparatus and method for treating ischemia by forming a fibrin plug |
abstract | (57) Abstract The present invention provides devices and methods for introducing fibrin growth into a tissue to promote revascularization of the tissue. The devices and methods of the present invention are useful with ischemic tissue originating anywhere in the body, and are particularly useful in treating ischemic myocardial tissue of the heart. The device of the present invention includes a frame configured to promote fibrin growth, wherein the frame is configured to allow traffic between the fibrin and the tissue into which the frame is implanted. Fibrin is located inside or outside the frame. The implant device should be able to immobilize and form fibrin in the tissue so that it does not migrate from the tissue. Fibrin-forming substances can be associated with the implant device to assist in promoting and maintaining fibrin growth. Alternatively, thrombogenic or fibrin-producing substances can be introduced alone into ischemic tissue without an associated device to induce fibrin growth in the body. In another aspect of the invention, an extracorporeally formed thrombus can be associated with the device prior to implantation to assist in revascularization by initiating angiogenesis and vessel reinforcement. Extracorporeally formed thrombi can also be introduced into the tissue of interest without an associated implant device. |
