Diolefin / hydroxylaryl condensate and catalyst therefor |
abstract |
(57) [Summary]nDisclosed is a catalyst composition comprising trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (also referred to as triflic acid) and a sufficient amount of a substance (also referred to as a retarder) that reduces the catalytic activity of the acid without quenching. Also disclosed are methods and compositions for performing condensation of hydroxylaryl and dienes using the catalyst compositions. The process comprises: having a molar ratio of 1 mole of diene to 1 mole of hydroxylaryl; having 1 mole of diene to 2 moles of hydroxyaryl and temperature, reaction time, type and amount of retarder and other variables. A condensate having a higher molecular weight product such as a resin by changing the above can be produced. |
