Compositions and methods for treating tumors |
abstract |
(57) [Summary]nThe present invention relates to methods and compositions for diagnosing and treating tumor cell growth and proliferation in mammals, including humans. The present invention is based on the identification of the ADAM8 gene which is amplified in the genome of tumor cells. Such gene amplification is associated with overexpression of the gene product compared to normal cells of the same type of tissue and contributes to tumorigenesis. Thus, the ADAM8 protein encoded by the amplified gene is a useful target for the diagnosis and / or treatment (including prevention) of certain cancers. |
