titleOfInvention Multi-stage mass spectrometer
abstract (57) Abstract: A multi-stage (MS) mass spectrometer with high sensitivity is disclosed. The mass spectrometer can eliminate ion loss during the isolation stage. The ions of interest are isolated (by the m / z value) without reducing the ions of the other m / z values, thereby allowing the selected ions to dissociate and the remaining ions to be dissociated. The ion assembly can be made available for subsequent isolation, dissociation and analysis of fragment ions. One suitable instrument includes a pulsed ion source coupled to a linear array of mass selective ion trap devices. At least one trap is coupled to an external ion detector. Each ion trap is configured with storage cells for the ion trap distributed between a pair of protection cells. The pair of protection cells are all adjusted along their z-axis.
