abstract |
(57) [Summary] A medium, an apparatus and a method for detecting and counting bacterial colonies in a sample using a balassed pH indicator will be described. The ballasted pH indicator limits diffusion of the indicator or fluorescent indicator zone associated with a colony of microorganisms growing in the medium. Further, by balancing generally toxic indicators, it is possible to render these indicators harmless to bacteria without adversely affecting their pH indicating ability. |
