titleOfInvention | Heparin compositions that inhibit clot-related coagulation factors |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides compositions and methods for treating cardiovascular diseases. More specifically, the present invention may, inter alia, (1) inactivate thrombin, which binds to either liquid phase thrombin as well as fibrin or some other surface in the clot, by catalyzing antithrombin; And (2) modification of thrombus formation by administering a medium molecular weight heparin (MMWH) composition that can inhibit thrombin generation by catalyzing factor Xa inactivation by antithrombin III (ATIII). The compositions and methods of the present invention are useful in preventing thrombosis in the circuits of cardiac bypass devices, in preventing thrombosis in patients undergoing renal dialysis, and in preventing unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), cerebrovascular disease. Particularly useful in treating patients who have or may have a cardiovascular condition associated with thrombus, such as accidental (stroke), pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, arterial thrombosis, etc. . |
