titleOfInvention | A rapid and sensitive assay for homocysteine |
abstract | (57) SUMMARY The present invention provides methods and kits for assaying for homocysteine in a biological sample. One method utilizes the enzymes methionine synthase and serine hydroxymethyltransferase sequentially to produce 3H2O in proportion to the amount of hCys in the initial sample. Another method utilizes the enzyme methionine synthase, followed by the enzymes serine hydroxymethyltransferase, methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase and formyltetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase to produce NADPH in proportion to the amount of hCys in the initial sample. |
