abstract (57) SUMMARY The present invention relates to a medical device for insertion into a body having at least one surface that periodically contacts a second surface. The first surface has a lubricious coating consisting of a first hydrogel layer and a second hydrophobic top coating that prevents the hydrogel coating from prematurely absorbing moisture. The hydrophobic top coating includes at least one hydrophilic surfactant that functions as a carrier to facilitate removal of the hydrophobic top coating when entering an aqueous environment.
