titleOfInvention Microfluidic device and method of generating pulsed micro liquid jet in liquid environment
abstract (57) Abstract A micro-liquid device and method for use in generating a pulsed micro-liquid jet in a liquid environment is provided. The subject microfluidic device is characterized by the presence of a microfluidic chamber at its proximal end. The micro liquid chamber is defined by an opening and closing part at the base end, steam generating means facing the opening, and a side wall between the opening and the steam generating means. Further, the microchamber is characterized in that the only way for the liquid to exit the microfluidic chamber is through the opening. When using the subject device to generate a liquid jet in a liquid environment, the chamber first contacts the liquid environment. The vapor generating means then operates in a manner effective to generate vapor bubbles in a chamber that in turn generates a micro liquid jet in a liquid environment. The subject devices and methods find use in a variety of different applications, such as incising tissue, introducing fluid into cells, and the like.
