abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high acquisition amount of useful components such as benzene, toluene, xylene (BTX) and the like from waste plastics, thereby providing a high effective use method of waste plastics. The object of the present invention is to add hydrogen to a liquid monocyclic or polycyclic aromatic compound containing waste plastic heated and liquefied to cause a hydrogenolysis reaction and to convert the reaction product into a cyclization catalyst. The problem is solved by a method for treating waste plastic, which comprises reacting in the presence to produce at least one of benzene, toluene and xylene.
