abstract (57) [Problem] To provide an industrially excellent method for producing hydantoins and / or hydantoic acids using easily available and safe raw materials and having extremely small amounts of toxic compounds in waste liquid. A method for producing hydantoins, which comprises reacting an α-amino acid with ureas, a method for producing hydantoins, comprising a step of reacting an α-amino acid with ureas to synthesize hydantoic acids, is provided. The present invention relates to a method for producing hydantoins, which comprises a step of cyclizing the obtained hydantoic acids in the presence of an acidic substance, and a method for producing hydantoic acids by reacting an α-amino acid with ureas.
