The capillary light from one or both directions of the capillary array filled with the functionalized polymer is irradiated with laser light, and the laser light successively propagates to the adjacent capillaries, traverses the capillary array, and detects light emission generated from the capillary array. In a capillary array electrophoresis apparatus for detecting by the method described above, there is provided an electrophoresis apparatus in which the filling medium is filled so as to cover at least half or the entire outer surface of the cross section of the capillary, and a method of manufacturing the same.
