abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene and amino acid sequence encoding 16S rRNA methylase that confers a novel resistance mechanism of Pseudomonas aeruginosa having acquired a high resistance to a wide range of aminoglycosides Means for facilitating the identification of resistant bacteria in bacterial inspection work at medical institutions. SOLUTION: In Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a gene conferring aminoglycoside resistance is cloned, its nucleotide sequence is determined, and homology search results show that this gene having a specific sequence is a novel enzyme (16S rRNA). (Methylase).
