titleOfInvention | Solution drying system |
abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for drying a chemical reagent on a material, especially for manufacturing a product used in making a reagent test piece. SOLUTION: By drying selected chemicals on a support pulled through a certain radiant energy source (preferably an IR source), a rapid drying process can be achieved and a high quality product Is obtained. Sufficient airflow can be provided to destroy or disrupt the vapor boundary layer above the solution being dried to increase the drying rate. However, the supplied air flow does not disturb the surface of the solution at all. In addition, air impingement drying techniques can be employed in the above systems to finish drying the reagent material after it has dried sufficiently to be stable in shape. The support on which the drug is dried at the top can be provided with a reflective coating to facilitate its use with high levels of radiant energy. Metallic or metallized supports are advantageously used in the manufacture of electrochemical test strips. Such test strips can be used with various kits and can be conveniently read by known hand-held instruments. |
