abstract (57) Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a multi-beam scanning method capable of reducing out-of-focus jitter even when using light source means having a plurality of light emitting points spaced apart in a main scanning direction. The point is to provide a device. Therefore, in the present invention, the width of each of the plurality of light beams emitted from the light source means in the main scanning direction is determined by changing the plurality of light beams emitted from the light source means over the entire effective scanning range on the surface to be scanned. In addition, when deflecting toward the synchronization detecting means provided outside the effective scanning range, the deflection surface of the deflecting means is configured to be wider than the moving range in the main scanning direction which may be present.
