SOLUTION: In a method for producing a surface-modified film obtained by forming a layer made of a modifier on the surface of a base film, A dispersion obtained by dispersing the modifier in a dispersion medium is used, and the thickness of the dispersion is 5 by spreading the dispersion on at least one of the surfaces of the moving base film. The method includes a coating film forming step of forming a coating film having a thickness of not more than μm. In the coating film forming step, a rod-shaped member having a substantially smooth surface is used.
